Do straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers, hair dye damage hair?

Does anyone know any websites that actually talk about the damage that hair straighteners or culing irons, or hair dye do to your hair?Do straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers, hair dye damage hair?
mostly hair straighteners will cause damage when used alot. but all of them will do a little damage, because of the heat.

i used straighteners alot and my hair was long, now its short an thin because it fell and broke off.:(Do straighteners, curling irons, blow dryers, hair dye damage hair?

Which is best to style african american hair? A hood dryer, hair dryer, or one of those side dryers and why?

depends on how you want to style your hair.

1) styler dryer if you want to blow dry your hair straight

2) use the hood dryer if you are doing sets (rollersets, wrap sets)

3) i think the only use for a common hair dryer is if you add a diffuser on to it, in order to keep your hair in the curl pattern it's in when wet.Which is best to style african american hair? A hood dryer, hair dryer, or one of those side dryers and why?
I have an ionic styler and ionic hood. Never really used the brush attachment, but when I blow dry my hair I start with the wide tooth, then the fine tooth to get it straight. But I prefer the hood for all reasons previously stated - some styles you just can't do without a hood dryer. Now, I just used a regular blow dryer here at the hotel with my paddle brush because I had to wash my hair. Fine for drying, but unless you have a fresh relaxer, yanno we have to manipulate our hair straighter. If you can only afford 1, go for the hood.
hood dryer all the way. its safe to use because its not a lot of direct heat. plus, the amounts of styles that you can use with it is endless. plus, you can use it when deep conditioner - trust me, your hair will thank you for it.
a hood drier because it does not dry hair to quickly and leaves in some of your natural oils. Plus it's comfy, for all hair types---black, white, etc.
hood dryer. I have one and it evenly dries the hair plus the heat isn't directly on the hair like a regular blow dryer would do.
a hood dryer is the best because it thoroughly dries the hair, while adding smoothness and giving you a frizz free finish

  • What is needed to enable use of Australian 240v hair dryers, hair rollers and irons while travelling in USA?

The other answers are correct and a voltage converter is required (plus a plug adapter if the converter is not equipped with a USA plug).

However, my experience is that appliances like you list do

NOT work well on another voltage - even with a converter.

I recommend you simply purchase the items in the USA after you arrive. They are available everywhere and are not expensive in the USA.

It may even cost less than purchasing a converter, particularly since the USD has been taking a beating in the exchange markets. What is needed to enable use of Australian 240v hair dryers, hair rollers and irons while travelling in USA?
You will need two items. One is a voltage adapter. Australia uses 240v electricity. The US uses 120v. You will also need a plug adapter. Australia and the US use different electrical outlets, so you can't just plug an appliance from one country into an outlet in the other country. What is needed to enable use of Australian 240v hair dryers, hair rollers and irons while travelling in USA?
    A step up transformer.

How do i get dryer hair?

It's really not that bad for me at all, but i wish my hair was dry. like really dry. I have short hair and i shake my head a lot and put hair spray in it every morning (pureology, serious colour care, antifade complex, in charge plus, firm finishing spray... that's what the bottle says. it's just one product.) Is there anything I could do to make my hair dryer? I like my hair messy and kinda spiky and I straighten it every morning, but sometimes it just looks a little greasy and it makes me angry. How do i get dryer hair?
Wash it every day and shampoo twice, no conditioner!

blow dry it quickly and on a hot heat. How do i get dryer hair?
For me it helps when i dry it upside down with the blowdryer.

Also, what might work for you, I don't know if you have it in your area (Im from the Netherlands) but we have something called dry shampoo. It's like a spray, some sort of white powder and it's meant to use when youre hair is a bit greasy and you don't have time to wash it. It smells sooooo good and also makes your hair alot dryer but not permanently, only when you use it. so for like a day.

    Hope this helps!
My hair stylist gave me smooth by Paul Mitchell. It helps cut dry time in half and you can style it and it doesn't look greasy at all. I think that work for ya, good luck

    Blow dryer hair damage?

Ok, I just started to use a blow dryer for hair (I am a guy with medium length hair). I know it can cause heat damage, but I am wondering...just how much? Is it permanent...like tattoo permanent? Or can it be fixed?

I've been told there is stuff you can use to protect your hair, but I don't want to buy any expensive products. I do have some Fructuse hair putty (which is close to gel) and some other stuff that makes the hair more moldable, but it doesn't become hard like would, so you can continue to mess with the hair.

Anyway, I really just need to know how damaging it is.Blow dryer hair damage?
I really dont think its too damaging. I blow dry my hair almost everyday and it isnt dry at all. Just use a lower setting then comepletely on hot, like use a warm setting. Also if your blow dryer has a cooling setting, everytime after i blow dry my hair, or if im blow drying it and am not comepletely done yet but my hair feels really hot, i cool it done with the cool setting.

    How to get dryer hair?

my hair is very oily, and I would like to get it more dry, no, not smooth and silky, dry.

I can't permanently dye it or bleach it, and my hair doesn't need straightening and I'd look like a fool because my hair is very shirt, and is already fairly straight, just need to know how to get it more dry

    thanks

    xxHow to get dryer hair?
Well for a start, only use a tiny tiny amount of conditioner on the ends of your hair.

    NEVER AT THE ROOTS!!

Then you can just spray salt water on your hair, that'll take the moisture out of it.

Remember to wash it twice with shampoo if you have oily hair!

    xHow to get dryer hair?
If Prell shampoo is still on the market it would dry your hair a bit. The oil is actually from your scalp not your hair so if you can treat your scalp with rubbing alcohol, it might work for you too.
    buy shampoo for oily hair
buy shamoo andcoditioner for ioly hair, this will help dry iy out, youi can also buy products to put on after for ioly hair, its prob your hormones causing it, it will ewventualy dry out if thisis the case..good luck x
skip the conditioner, i do that. it keeps the hair two extra days cleaner and fresher, but not silky as you said.

P:S you can use head and shoulders, it keeps it really fresh and clean. not oily at all.
use t-gel or a shampoo with tea tree oil.x

  • Can using blow dryer, hair straightener everyday would have an effect on the brain eg. how people thinks?

I doubt it. The heat would not get through to the brain in any meaningful way and the magnetic fields around electrical objects don't seem to have much effect on people. Can using blow dryer, hair straightener everyday would have an effect on the brain eg. how people thinks?
Yes, there is cumulative damage to DNA in the brain from blow dryers, electric blankets, and other magnetic fields. http://www.naturalnews.com/000921.html

Im going camping and I cannot live without my blow-dryer/ hair straightener! What am I to do?

If you really need them, you could buy a portable power source thing. I think all you have to do is charge them up. You can always put your hair up too. I don't think anybody will care about your hair if you are camping anyway so don't worry about it :)Im going camping and I cannot live without my blow-dryer/ hair straightener! What am I to do?
Keep it in a bun or ponytail.Im going camping and I cannot live without my blow-dryer/ hair straightener! What am I to do?
Possibly get over it. I know that really does suck, I would be freaking out too, but...

That's really the only thing you can do.

I don't know of any blow drier that is battery powered.

    None the less a straightner.

Sorry, but it looks like you're gonna have to go without.

    :(

Although, do make sure to bring hair product so your hair doesn't get all frizzy.
It depends how long your going for.I straightened my hair yesterday and when i woke up this morning (almost 27 hours after i straightened it) it was still straight. If the trip is for like 2-3 days the where a lot of perfume and deoderant and don't shower but if it longer then you might dye of non staightened hair. You could always scrunch it instead or wear ponytails a lot
If your blow-dryer/ hair straightener are that important, don't go camping.
Just wear your hair up in a pony tail, and maybe wear it up in different ways. There is no other way outta this one! Can't really straighten your hair with out a straightener. Just bring some gel and scrunch your hair. This is a good way for your hair to take a break from all the blow drying etc... just wear it naturally or wear it up! Good luck!
You should buy the straightner that you just have to charge and then you can take it! It also isn't as big as a regular straightner so you can put it in your purse.

You can also just keep it in a pony tail.

If you really can't live without them, don't go camping!
lol - alas, I can guarantee you will survive without them.
You can just put some gel in your hair after you shower and scrunch it so it's wavy. I'm sure you'll be fine though. No one else there is going to have straightners or blow dryers either.
okay, so I can relate! I LOVE CAMPING. and there are also some things I cant live without. I sell on ebay and I *NEED* my laptop! ((I dont really care about my hair, but I do need electricity for some things). They sell adapters at walmart in the electronics department (and possibly in the automotive section) that convert your cigaret lighter to a regular plug. they even have ones you can plug a 3 prong plug into. Dont forget to charge your car battery after you use it. But it should enable you to use your blow dryer or hair straightner any time you want.

    Have a great time camping!

    Christy
who cares, everyone will look like you, ur fine
sounds like you will be an awful camper. doing your hair should be the least of your worries while camping. matter of fact it destroys the point of camping.
Usually, if you keep your hair in a high pony tail after straightening, your hair will maintain a sleek, straight look with body. I generally wear mine in the ponytail while showering under a showercap, while working out at the gym and while doing things around the house until I am ready to go out. The shower cap is really good while showering because it allows you to take a shower while keeping your hair in the style it's in. They are pretty cheap as well and you can pick some up at a drug store. If you can't live without a straightener you may want to consider picking up a small portable one like the one on this site: http://wonderfulbuys.com/handyhair.asp

If you are the typical, anti-camper, you may also want to consider ';Glamping'; - short for glamourous camping! You can check out an article about glamping here: http://travel.families.com/blog/camping-options-for-the-anti-camper

    and here: http://www.grouptravelblog.com/weblog.php?id=C18_1_1

    Hope this helps!
go anyways..just wear your hair up all the time...

I know they make portable curling irons, that dont require electricity, maybe you can get away with just using a curling iron

I wanted to know what all I can not carrie on an airplane.

    i.e.

    movies?

    hair dryer/straightner?

    Glass cups?

    Plastic cups?

    Candy?

Can can i carrie on an Easter basket??Can I carrie on a hair dryer/hair straighter on an airplane?
Yes to all of the above.

TSA may have to open your carry on bag when they see the hair dryer and straightener go through, just because of all of the wires. It is not a problem I do it all the time.

Glass and plastic cups no problem. Just make sure the glass is wrapped in something that will protect it from breaking.

Candy is fine also. You just are not allowed to have any liquids more than 3.4 oz. in your carry on luggage.

Happy Travels! Can I carrie on a hair dryer/hair straighter on an airplane?
Why you are so worried. Each and every item which you can carry is mentioned on your Air ticket.
